When school is out, and the weather is warm, the last thing you want to do is sit in front of the TV for hours.
So why not head to Cardiff Bay? It really is one of the best places to escape with the children this summer. Not only does the Bay transform into a sandy seaside for all, but the Centre offers up an array of brilliant family activities. We’ve put together a list of fantastic things to do for the whole family, from toddlers to teens.
Kicking off our summer of is our Family Activities weeks. During the summer holidays, our family events will be in full swing and taking over the public spaces at the Centre. These activities are specially designed to encourage families to take some time to explore their creative sides in a fun and engaging way.
Each week will have a different theme: Plasticine Posse, Melting Masterpieces, Professor Quatro-Trousers Presents: Wonderful Woven Web, Mosaic Mansion and The Big Green Clean Machine. Just like Toddler Time, the events are completely free!
We’ll be easing our way into our summer shows for families with one for those aged three to 103. Tickledom will be ending its tour through Wales at the Centre on 30 July with its production: Tickledom The Family Musical.
Join Princess Violet and her trusty sidekicks Marigold, Dan D Lion, Doc Leaf and Snapdragon as they go on an adventure through Tickledom. Will they find their precious Forget-me-Nots and break the evil curse put on Fluella the Ice Witch?
Starring Radio Wales’ very own Chris Needs as Snapdragon, written by John Manders and award-winning composer Matthew Brind.
The Addams Family – A Musical Comedy
Next up on is a trip down memory lane with everyone’s favourite frightful family, The Addams. They’ll be moving in with us for just under two weeks in August – and we can’t wait!
This is the perfect opportunity to introduce your young’uns to the loveable Fester, little Wednesday, and Cousin It, but to also experience the Addams in a completely different light.
During The Addams Family – a Musical Comedy, we see that little Wednesday Addams is all grown up, and has fallen in love with… a ‘normal’ person! How will Gomez ever keep this tragedy from his beloved Morticia?
Witness the mesmerizingly dark transformations of Carrie Hope Fletcher as Wednesday, Samantha Womack as a Morticia, and an unrecognisable Les Dennis as Uncle Fester.
With creepy mist, spooky moving portraits, and hauntingly beautiful vocals – all with the backing of a live orchestra. What’s not to love?
Picture the hit cinema blockbuster, but bigger, louder, and live! After all, as Tracy Turnblad says: “You have to dream big to be big!”.
And who better to take advice from than the Baltimore born and bred teen, who is a role model within her own right. What could be more inspiring than to see the underdogs reaching for the stars and achieving their dreams? Hairspray truly is the musical proof that if you work hard and persevere, anything is possible.
The impressive rainbow of costumes, pieced together with eye-catching hues and sparkling sequins, are an asset to the breath-taking dance routines. We can guarantee that you’ll be dancing in your seats for almost three hours!
As part of our dedication to encourage young people to get inspired about the arts, we will also be offering a discount for the aged 16 and under. Be quick though, these are subject to availability! Visit our website to find out more.
Hairspray will be with us 16-26 August.
Crazy for You
This glitzy musical is a fantastic opportunity to ease the teens into the old-fashioned glamour of theatre. With some familiar faces, in the form of Tom Chambers and Caroline Flack, it won’t be hard to get them excited for this one.
Bobby Child is faced with a dilemma: close the theatre and risk losing the heart of his beloved Polly, or please his mother and pay the bills. In a final bid to save it all, he decides to put on a production. With the production hanging in the balance, Bobby Child is faced with a new love interest, and a case of mistaken identity.
With jazzy numbers, and two Strictly Come Dancing pros, we can guarantee that this will be a night to remember! Catch Crazy For You from 5 September.
Did you know that we regularly put on events especially for your little ones? We’re so proud of our building, and we want to make sure that everyone has the chance to enjoy it, no matter how old they are. This is why we dedicate one Friday a month to all things toddler. Our toddler times are a great way to immerse your children into a world of early learning with others their age.
We will be taking a short break for the summer as our Family Weeks will be taking over – but we’ll be back up and running as usual in September, and we’d love to see you come along.
From singing to play time, music to crafts, choose one… or attend them all – they’re completely free! We’ve listed all dates and times under Toddler Time in the Family tab on our website – just turn up on the day!
