Spotlight on April

Can you believe it’s already April? We’re into the fourth month of the year, and we’ve already had our two days of summer. Get ready for April showers, it’s brolly season everyone! Don’t let that dampen your spirits though, there’s still plenty of wonderful stuff to come see at the Centre (inside and away from the rain). Here’s a sneak peak of some of the things you can expect under our roof this month.

Rent April 3-8

Hope. Struggle. Triumph.

Based on Puccini’s ‘La Boheme’, RENT follows a group of friends living in New York and coping with day-to-day trials and pursuits. Follow them as they battle their all too familiar issues concerning love, sexuality, drugs, AIDS and of course, rent. This feel-good production will have you crying tears of joy and sadness, whilst snapping and clapping along to its infectious rhythms. Join us in Donald Gordon Theatre to celebrate the 20th anniversary of RENT The Musical.

CAM Festival – 8 April

‘Cam’ – being Welsh for the word ‘step’ is exactly that. CAM is a step in the right direction for budding talent. Following the success of the first CAM festival, it’s finally made its comeback in 2017. Unlike 2015 which was held in the Centre itself, this year’s festival will take part in various venues through the Mount Stuart Square and surrounding Bute Town areas. The Centre has worked closely with Gwenno Saunders to pull together a diverse line-up of artist to present an inspiring day of discussions, art displays and live performances alike. On for one day only, make sure you don’t miss out!

The Commitments 10-15 April

Come along and sing at the top of your voices to classics such as Mustang Sally, I Heard it Through The Grapevine and (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction – we know we will be. Starring Coronation Street legend Kevin Kennedy, The Commitments will be on our stage 10-15 April.

Sister Act 17-29 April

Glamorous lounge singer Delores Van Cartier transitions from disco diva to the divine in this sassy musical adaptation of the much-loved film.

Famed disco diva Ms Van Cartier, brought to the stage by former X Factor winner and chart topper Alexandra Burke, sees her world turned upside down in this acclaimed smash hit musical.

With direction and choreography from Strictly Come Dancing’s Craig Revel Horwood, this musical takes Delores on an unexpected journey after she witnesses a murder and is forced to go into hiding in the most unlikely place – a convent.

Her transition from lounge singer to nun doesn’t run smoothly, and Delores soon attempts to escape while putting herself in jeopardy.

As punishment for her reckless behaviour, Mother Superior forces her to overhaul the convent’s struggling choir using her singing skills.

The sassy and soulful musical features classic hits which are certain to have the audience singing and dancing all night long.

Join us on the in the Donald Gordon Theatre for the hilarious classic and get back in the habit with Sister Act.
